Bento East is such a gem to find! I absolutely love their beef bao buns — they’re so fluffy, warm, and perfectly soft to bite into. I ended up getting four of them because they were just that good! You can really taste the care that goes into their food. The staff are super nice and welcoming every time I stop by, which makes the whole experience even better. The only thing to keep in mind is that they’re cash only, which can be a little inconvenient since I usually pay by card — but honestly, their food is so worth it that I don’t even mind stopping by an ATM first. If you’re in Ashland and craving something flavorful, cozy, and satisfying, definitely check out Bento East. Their bao buns alone make it worth the trip!
I wanted to love this place, I wanted to give it 5 stars but I just can't be dishonest. The owner is a nice guy but the food falls short of my expectations. Not enough toppings but lots of good Japanese style short grain rice. The beef teriyaki was good but just one skewer and the teriyaki sauce was watery. The chicken satay was super tiny pieces. Maybe offer two skewers per meal of medium sized meat pieces. The pork buns are good but not made in-house. Loved the eggplant, tofu and potato dish but yet again, not enough topping to rice ratio and could have used more eggplant. Cash only.
Been coming here for 19 years. Addicted to the tofu bento with extra peanut sauce. Affordable, informal, and a real treasure in Ashland. Highly recommended.
Fantastic hole in the wall find! I stopped in for lunch & tried the chicken bento w/brown rice. My chicken was tender & grilled to perfection. The rice was excellent! For only $10 this is the best deal in town!
Rice based simple menu but bursting with flavor. Accommodating to most dietary restrictions. A wonderful lunch spot, nestled just off the main part of downtown. It’s all to-go and cash only, but easy to order at the window with fast service.
