My teen and I were craving authentic street tacos & carne asada fries, and Mega Tacos came up in my search. The reviews seemed solid enough, especially seeing that they made the tortillas in-house. However, there were far fewer recent reviews which I noticed after the fact. Hindsight being 20/20, I should've paid attention to the negative reviews, and taken note how long ago the most recent one was. We pulled up before 6:30pm and there were only two other vehicles near the truck, and no one utilizing the tables that are in front of the food truck. The gal parked next to where we did was eating In and Out. I thought that was interesting. We ordered the Mega Taco with asada, $9, the asada fries, $14, and one horchata, $5 (on the pricey side). $28 total. I went into my wallet grabbed a $20 and what I thought was a $5 and three $1's. I saw the woman put the $20 in her till, and started counting the rest. She showed me a $5 and four $1's and said "No $20". I said, "Yes, I handed you the $20 and what I thought was $8." She showed me the small bills again and said "No $20". I have integrity, so I considered *maybe* I hadn't grabbed a $20 and instead grabbed four $1's, so I grabbed a (nother) $20. I wasn't going to debate someone who was making our food. Food was ready & hot about 10 min later, and the horchata looked extra cinnamony. We didn't get to eat right away, but overall it wasn't the best mexican food we've had. Meat lacked some flavor. And the tortilla hardened up fast. The green sauce needs to come with a warning--it's incredibly spicy, and we know spicy. My teen accidentally poured it all over their asada fries thinking it was mild salsa verde. We did enjoy the horchata though. I couldn't let the money thing go and I wasn't going to gaslight myself when I know I handed her $28 and I saw her stuff the $20 down. And because I'm meticulous with my funds, I knew how much I left the house with earlier in the day, so I went back through where we had gone, what we spent, and double-checked my receipts. Yup, the woman lied to get extra $20. Is this the "norm" now? FTS. I even tipped her $2 figuring it was a slow day. In good conscience, I cannot recommend an establishment that doesn't hold themselves to the highest standard of integrity, accountability, and respect for ALL of it's customers. PERIOD. Mega Tacos #1 in Ashland is so good! First time eating here and we were seriously impressed. I ordered the asada burrito and it felt like it weighed about 3 pounds—no joke. Massive portion, packed with flavor, and perfectly cooked meat. My wife got two chicken street tacos and they were just as impressive. Huge portions, fresh ingredients, handmade tortillas, and incredible flavor all around. Everything tasted phenomenal, and the value for what you get is outstanding. This place made it onto our regular rotation. We’ll definitely be back!
